If I can assume most of these people are from the US or other western states, it looks like the number of people in that list are disproportionately black. Why is homosexuality especially reviled in some black communities?

Maybe the black people on this twitter happen to be gangsta rap fans? Hip Hop has a history of violent homophobia (see: dmx). It has started to die down in recent years but there's plenty of idiot fans who havent learned anything. Probably just a coincidence in this particular case though, the main trait I see among the people on this page is religious fervor.

Black culture has made a lot of improvement in recent years. I think there's a number of reasons homosexuality has been shunned in the black community in the past, among them that oppressed people often lash out at other groups who are oppressed, and that in hip hop culture in particular there's a need for men especially to be "hard" and not show emotion or compassion, and gay men obviously stand in opposition to this ideal. I think a few social groups have made strides in addressing this sort of... intolerance gap recently (think Wanda Sykes on those don't say gay commercials a little while ago) after it became a focus following that California gay marriage vote that was passed disproportionately by black voters.

I guess I have to chime in, eh?

Masculinity is huge part of Black culture... probably because we all have an inferiority complex from growing up, well, inferior. Homosexuality is perceived as a threat (of course this is ridiculous.) Like sexism, racism or it is a learned behavior from your environment... whether it be friends, family, church, community..

Luckily, as time goes on, new generations learn from the idiocy of the previous ones.

There were actually a lot of black people involved in anti-homophobic protests during the 60s, 70s, etc. The homophobic image of black culture does stem from hip hop, but still that's only certain types of hip hop. (the shitty kind)
