my computer is broken!

I installed osx mavericks so I could run the latest Final Cut Pro, and now it won't boot. just sits at the apple logo

I've been on my iPad the last week or so

recovery won't install, drive won't mount in disk utility to re-partition, safe boot won't start, zapping the pram did nothing, resetting the smc did nothing, single user mode works (command line interface) but fsck did not resolve the issue. I'm going to boot it in target disk mode and transfer my files to an external hard drive using another computer, then clean install mavericks and transfer the files back. this will take at least a day, if it works, but I also have plans with friends. e.t.a. 24-48 hours.

I would remind everybody to back up your files constantly, but I clearly never listened
