w/r/t bioshock I haven't read that pitch but I suspect mutant sea creatures was too pulpy for the tone they were going for

FLOUNDERMAN_CLOCK

them making the world and plot and platinum doing the gameplay is probably why it was so perfect. The combat and movement is just so damn satisfying. if your problem was jankyness but you liked the writing you should definitely pick up automata. I've heard about drakengard being crazy repetitive but I still wanna play it. If there's a bunch of grinding for extra/true ending I'll just youtube it. Automata didn't feel like a waste of time to play through it the second and third time. the second time really changes how you see the story and the third one is basically a sequel to the first two. Nier sounds like it's playable at least I'm going for that first. plus Emil is in it and I wanna know whats up with that. how bad is the localisation on Drakengard though?

also here's that bioshock thing I thought it was neat.

https://bioshock.fandom.com/wiki/BioShock_Original_Pitch

Especially the first page.

Slurpee

just by playing automata you're spoiled on a pretty big Emil twist, I'll be curious to hear what your reaction is when you meet him

the Drakequation localization isn't too too bad; you can mostly understand what's happening. the voice acting is a little stilted and awkward in the way that they often were in the ps2 era, but the main problem is stuff like...
ok, no clean way to say this: one of the main characters is a child molester, and the localization downplays it so much that you might not even realize. which, obviously, I understand why they would do that, but it's also the point of the character, and partly the point of the game
when creating Drakenrihanna, Yoko Taro tried to imagine the kind of person that would behave the way players do in video games, thoughtlessly slaughtering by the thousands, and decided that they would have to be an absolute fucking blood psychopath. the rest of the game grew out of that- all of the characters are horrible people, and without that context the theming of the entire game is thrown out of whack. the censorship makes the meaning of everything murky and unclear

also thanks for the bioshock link this is cool

FLOUNDERMAN_CLOCK

I think some of the late game logs you read probably spoil a lot of bits in Nier. I have a vague idea of the gestalt project and that it involves replicants and some redhead twins. just makes me more fascinated to play it. it was probably intentional.

knowing that about drakengard I can at least go into it understanding the context that the localisation wont give me. I can deal. I read an interview about Nier though and apparently the Drakengard ending that leads into it was inspired by the UFO endings in Silent Hill. now I GOTTA play it. I'll blow twenty bucks on nier in the near future, for drakengard I outright need to buy a new ps2 controller. probably a hacked memory card too fuck paying 50-200 dollars each for USED copies of games I missed out on.

also I take back my earlier plot rating it's a 10/10 I loved every bit of it and all the characters. especially 9S. even the sidequest characters are great, I love that robot martial artist who scams you out of rare materials just so you can fight him again. it's complete bullshit and 9S comments on how bullshit it is but you and him just keep doing it cause you wanna see the end of this and you're already invested. is that a meta thing about video games? that censored guy you mentioned from drakenstimpy made me think of that.

PhantomCatClock

my stupid Glanced At The Wikipedia Animation for Depth-First Maze Generation Instead Of Reading Anything About It game on NG has seven fucking pages of reviews what the hell

RobClock

You know what’s bullshit?

The Windows 3D Maze screensaver doesn’t work on Win10. It worked on Win7. Fuck Microsoft.

PhantomCatClock

I honestly can't remember the last time I had a screensaver but the maze and the pipes were my JAM when I still used Windows

even windows 8 runs it properly. they want you to buy shit like minesweeper and solitaire too. lol fuck that you only had to change a single line of code to get the old versions working on windows 8, I wonder if that's true of 10. god damn they really do suck what the hell happened? it feels like every notable tech company has gone to shit or at least isn't what they used to be. really sucks when it's stuff you need to use everything else. with something like adobe you can use previous versions of their stuff no problem so it isn't a big deal, but an OS is a trickier matter.

PhantomCatClock

yeah i was sick of BIG TECH fucking me so i switched to linux so i can go fuck myself instead

FLOUNDERMAN_CLOCK

I know I can dualboot to get all the shit that's windows only but getting used to a new OS is aaerasdfasdffffff and sometimes some particular kind of linux based thing will stop being good even though it was good for years so you gotta hunt down another one and I dont wanna go to a new school mom all my friends are here and michigan smells bad run on sentence

like the ancient flounderlanders who transcended their physical bodies eons ago, i too have transcended using good software and now i'm surprised when i use the same program twice. My /home folder is on a separate drive. This computer is a husk and when it dies, my consciousness will live on.

PhantomCatClock

i forgot where i was going with that and never made the point i meant to, but hey, 5400 posts

I've actually only had one audio problem and it got fixed instantly with google. It was -go in and edit a fucking script that comes with pulseaudio-, but it was still quick and the only fix I ever needed

though i guess it's not like your problem really needed fixing dohoho

Holy shit, ssh yourself@localhost really works and typing exit just logs you back out into yourself

just tested this and found there's nothing stopping you from sshing you@localhost while you're sshing you@localhost; you can build up a buffer and have 9 lives

gotta be careful though cause if you "exit" one too many times your terminal window disappears

that's how I close the windows anyway because ctrl+w doesn't work in them and alt+f4 still doesn't feel natural to me
