PhantomCatClock

getting into them retro games huh

k9

Lmao, I wouldn't call them retro just yet, but it is weird to think that games like Sonic Generations are almost 10 years old. I wonder when the PS3 will be considered a proper "retro" console. The PS2 was considered that when the PS4 came out, so who knows how long it'll be?

PhantomCatClock

You are an old man with a PS3 that you just said is falling apart from being so archaic

I remember how mad I got the first time someone called the N64 retro

it'll happen to you

k9

oh yeah im aware lol. I think it'll truly be an archaic fucken punch card machine when the online support for it dies, because rn you can still get PS3 games off PSN.

PhantomCatClock

you can still get NES games on the switch you geriatric pruneface

Nintendo sundowned the eShop for NES though, so the only way to get new games for your NES is to buy used cartridges
<Marlin Clock> This thread seems proof positive that divisiveness at any level is usually bad for the Clock Crew.
<PhantomCatClock> are we talking about the same clock crew

Slurpee

I want to play tokyo jungle
ps4 port when snony

PhantomCatClock

some people pronounce tokyo as three syllables

others, correctly, pronounce it as two

but i, myself, personally, pronounce it as one.

nah but I mean you can still download them to a PS3 and play them off it. PS4 and likely PS5 can't run PS3 games because the PS3 had this weird fucking system architecture using the "cell processor" that was a fucking mess and no one liked to use.

I remember octo telling me about that game, it looks fucking cool lol

FLOUNDERMAN_CLOCK

there's some cool ps3 games I can't justify buying a ps3 for. I always wanted to play folklore

I don't know if it's any good but I'm not sure I'd even care with an aesthetic like that. metal gear solid 4 and demon's souls as well obv. they're porting demon's souls, but the ps5 version messes up all the boss designs for some reason. the same studio didn't try to make the colossi into generic monsters, why do it here?

oh and I just beat Ranger X. it's this impressive looking sega genesis game that actually uses the six button pad. some guys fucked up your space colony and now you're gonna ruin their shit with your solar powered giant robot and this robo-unicycle thing you can control with the top row of buttons, otherwise it just follows along and shoots when you shoot. that combined with the various special weapons you collect are essential when you have to change up your strategy during and between each level.

the second level where you're in the cave is bullshit but the rest of the game is action packed strategic and fun. good music too.

woah that mega drive game looks cool as shit, I might give it a look. I always liked shooters, I've always meant to check out some of the 2D ones, like Ikaruga and Bangai-O and that kind of deal. Actually, Bangai-O looks really really similar to Ranger X.

heres some gameplay of it:

I really wannae try it, but it's a little expensive on Dreamcast, but way cheaper than I thought it'd be.

PhantomCatClock

doesn't the dreamcast play burned games

It does, but I've heard it damages the laser. Basically it plays 3 formats, GD-ROM, CD-ROM, and MIL-CD-ROM. GD-ROM is the Gigabyte Disc format the games come on, and the CD stuff is obviously for playing music, but the Dreamcast can't play games off a CD, so you'd think it's copy protected pretty well but for some reason they totally fucked themselves by putting MIL-CD in. Essentially it was used for like karaoke and that kinda thing, to show visuals with some input from the user, like menus and all. I think 4 MIL-CDs were ever made and are probably crazy rare at this pont, they were NTSC-JP only too, but for some reason, even though the Dreamcast has reigon differences, the MIL-CD support is in every reigon. So playing a pirated game off a burned CD is tricking it into thinking it's a MIL-CD, and then somehow forcing it to play the game through that, which is why it damages the already extremely fragile Dreamcast laser. Granted, I've heard some people play burned games for years on Dreamcast and have no issues, and it'd probably be cheaper in the long run to replace the laser rather than buy the pricey games. I'll probably try it at some point.

only for skies of arcadia and some other game. though it's always working harder even on burned games in general. if you're worried about wearing it out and willing to open up your console there's always GDEMU.

Doesn't GDEMU get rid of the disc drive? I like having the games physically, so I'll probably just burn some games. You can get a big stack-O CDs now for like 99p its mad

Recently played and beat TLOU2. Lots of controversial story decisions but taken as a whole, I enjoyed the experience immensely and it's probably one of my favorite games of this year.

I still think Doom Eternal is top for me though.

PannacottaClock

I am playing Bugfa Bles, the spiritual indie successor to the Paper Mario series

I'm nearly halfway through and I've found it real good so far. It oozes charm like a rotting candy apple and the battles are actually challenging with the hardmode enabled, which was never true in the old Paper Mario games. if you're a fan of those you should maybe play it, it's pretty much got the same mechanics and but with added bells and whistles and tons more sidequests.
hard seltzer counter 2023: 4

PhantomCatClock

It looks perfect but I cannot in good faith pay $20 for a $20 game during the Summer Sale

I should probably play Eternal, I really liked 2016, and it looks like 2016 with grappling hooks, which is cool as fuck.

the owner of some podcast I listen interviewed the lads who made that, it sounds cool but I've never played Paper Mario before so maybe not. I might get Oragami King but I'll probably wait for it to be a bit cheaper.
