dude I just found out that vancouver, wa is across the columbia river from portland, or, and not, as I had previously believed, across the border from vancouver, bc

this is such bullshit
<Marlin Clock> This thread seems proof positive that divisiveness at any level is usually bad for the Clock Crew.
<PhantomCatClock> are we talking about the same clock crew

is it me or has adobe REALLY not made it clear whether flash is going to just stop being supported or if they're going to use their invasive installer bullshit to make it stop working entirely?

My internet is out again and in a new and exciting twist, the modem has all three lights on, indicating full connection to that information superhighway, and yet I can't load a basic bitch webpage like this forum without using my cellular data.

the last couple years were made by the Big Historian Industry to sell more history.

FLOUNDERMAN_CLOCK

Jokes on them we won't need history books in thirty years when public schools are just downloading Wikipedia into student's brains after the printing industry collapsed. But it's still just Naruto episode guides and lists of spiders. They won't even know how to read.

if you haven't grabbed tyranny or pillars of eternity in the last week you have like 10 hours or something idk if it goes by timezone, but starting tomorrow (the 17th) they're doing one a day til christmas

I don't approve of the way epic has gone about establishing their share of marketplace

regarding complex lore, honestly it's all about how you present it, kinda like Flounderman was saying. you have very distinct examples even in final fantasy itself. FFX did a fantastic job with it because they were able to weave this complex lore without it feeling too burdensome or overly complex. basically, they had a valid excuse to explain things as they were becoming relevant, and not just throw random information at your face

conversely, FF XIII copped out on that and just made it so complicated and convoluted with their lore, without any of it even being shown or seen on screen, one didn't even understand how that wall of text you just had to read has anything to do with the game you're playing. if you asked me to explain it, i wouldn't know. some shit about being cursed by gods or something, idk.

my point is, convoluted lore isn't the problem, even if it directly affects the action of the game, as long as it is presented to you in a way in which you can actually follow. the OG FF VII wasn't too bad in that regard imo (okay maybe a bit with the whole Cloud/Zack thing), but the FF series has worse offenders
right
you're describing motivated action bro

clarity is more a function of relevance than it is of simplicity, sure
but relevance is, largely, a function of motive

in FFX you know what Tidus and Yuna want on a moment to moment basis
you learn what a summoner is because you're helping Yuna, you learn about the ethnic tensions with the Al Bhed because you're friends with Rikku, you learn about Dream Zanarkand because Tidus wants to go home

it's about what the characters want and why they're doing what they're doing, so it's useful to you, so you understand it

there's other reasons for a player to consider information relevant- curiosity's a good one- but character motive is the strongest because it's there for anybody consuming the story

i was thinking more of the fact that because Tidus is an outsider, there's an immersive reason for people to be constantly explaining lore to him without it feeling too forced or convoluted

but you do have a point, the game does try to rope you in emotionally

you seem to know more about plot theory than i do so you know
