I don't want to spoil it in case I can actually do this, so I'll say it's something bouncy, like a diving board or a palm tree or a dildo or a fishing pole, y'know, something with a kind of rubbery elastic up and down movement, bouncing under its own weight. I've definitely made cubes drop on each other with gravity in blender in the past, so I know the program can do this kind of thing without me having to manually animate it
and I was like "how the hell do I google this"
so I tentatively did a duck duck go for elastic physics blender
oh, perfect! second result, "jiggle physics"

hnnnnggghhhhhhhhhh the first episode of the The Summer Hikaru Died anime dropped on netflix and GOD it's really fucking good, what the fukk. hahhhh..... FUG

I know I keep posting about hikaru even though no one gives a shit but I don't have anyone cool to talk to about it with and  how is it so goodddhgvhgvjhgcvfhfvhbf it's a bl horror anime that's an adaptation of a manga that's still ongoing, it's not supposed to be Actually Good, on its fucking best day it should max out at Good Actually. I was all revved up to be extremely charitable and forgiving of it for being cheap and half-baked and instead it perfectly captures the tone and setting of the story, the sweltering oppressive heat of summer and endless chirping of cicadas, the twisting, kinetic animation and exaggerated framing for ordinary actions just adding to the disjointed narrative and mood that make you feel like you're going insane. it strays from the manga but all of its embellishments feel calculated and appropriate and add without taking away, like they added this extended tranquil montage of just everyday life and it's just fucking cinematographic, full stop, it feels like it belongs in like a paul thomas anderson or wong kar wai movie, and it goes a really long way into giving a sense of this sort of reversion to a false ordinary so when yoshiki has his quiet what the fuck am I doing panic attack it hits so much harder because you've been watching him sink into this kind of dimly unquestioning acceptance of something that's fundamentally at odds with not just a sane universe but what any person would feel like they should be doing in his situation
like the Dungeon Meshi anime was always going to be good because lol it's Studio Trigger, c'mon. who the fuck is "CygamesPictures"? how did this happen?

I also vowed to become a STAR TREK GUY and got paramount+ and I was not prepared for how good Lower Decks is. Not to say drop everything and go watch it (it is really quite good) but I just assumed it was fine, since nobody ever talked about it beyond "YEE, IT GOOD"

I think about that whenever I'm animating. "why did I get into this?" I wonder, "I don't like work"

honestly seeing it gradually come to life bit by bit is magical. except when I animate in a movie clip and it disappears except the first frame when I save and open the FLA again. then it starts being work. also all audio editing is work I hate it outside of picking the music.

probably wouldn't've fallen in with the bad crowd if only you'd recycled keyframes like every commercial cartoon show in the universe. how do you get into animation without ever seeing a single one
