I have to read chapters of this book, Immigrant America: A Portrait, for this sociology class, and it's actually good and interesting and I'm learning a lot that I didn't know that I didn't know, so I'm just posting to say it's a good read I guess, if you feel underinformed about the sociology of immigration (like, what actually causes it  and results from it, instead of just what people just kind of assume would make sense and what politicians feel like they can say about it), or if you're into the whole umberto eco "own more books than you've read as a reminder of how little you know" type pf personal library building, it'd be a great addition for that also

I just learned the actual premise of The Melencholy of Haruhi Samosas, and now I'm mad at everybody who was posting about it 20 years ago

it's about an alien, a time traveler, and an illuminati psychic who all join a school club for seeking out the paranormal, because the girl who founded the club is an omnipotent god who's unaware of her status, and they're all working to undermine the discovery of their respective groups

I mean, probably because the show is not what I'm picturing in my head right now and despite the insane premise is still exactly what it seems like on the surface, right? but still

I should write down what I'm imagining right now so I don't forget when somebody inevitably tells me what the show is actually like or if I accidentally watch it

and endless eight. that too. that was hilarious. I didn't even watch the show but hearing people lose their minds to that episode repeating eight weeks in a row was the best. they HAD to keep watching because there were slight differences each time the day repeated. 

after the point the anime stopped, the light novels present an interesting concept of a rival club that's trying to usurp haruhi's powers because they don't trust her with them or the SOS people to handle her. apparently the writer had no idea where to go from there and the light novels went on forever-hiatus. I might still read them anyways.

it was a fine anime. obviously it's of its time, so moeshit was as important as anything else happening. pick ur fav: batshit obsessive mpdg, autism gf, klutz w boobs

you do not have to watch the endless eight. (dee bo voice) WHAT slight differences. admit that the anime-industrial complex phones it in sometimes and move on. that was also s2 right? diminishing returns.

madoka magika was more thought provoking

in retrospect that's obvious but back then they didn't know that. there would be a slightly different camera angle or shot and people thought it might be important. it NEVER was. only the first and last variations mattered. in the light novels it's just one short chapter. the studio was trolling people from the beginning so it's be to expected. there was never any deep reason to having the first season air completely out of order they just felt like it. I love that.

i think the reason nobody talked about haruhi's cool setting when i was IN HIGH SCHOOL SURROUNDED BY HIGH SCHOOL BOYS is episode two is the one where she bullies her friend into wearing a rabbit girl fishnets+leotard costume and i don't think anybody was listening beyond that, given the circumstances
