look i understand this is a popular sentiment among people uneducated in how the budget and foreign aid work, but the assertion here is patently false.

while the domestic homeless and impoverished are a very real and serious issue, scaling back foreign aid has absolutely nothing to do with the amount left over to be invested into helping the problem here.  the amount of the federal budget alotted to foreign aid is something like one tenth of one percent and is entirely independent of whether or not people are serious about combating any kind of issue within our own borders.  almost all popular theories in modern ethics say that the united states should be allocating vastly more to foreign aid, and that people in general should be more charitable than they are.

I said nothing about federal dollars being spent. It hasn't even been mentioned in this topic. We were talking about social awareness. The fake, trendy, hipster, do-nothing awareness.

All winter I've been watching as the homeless woman on the corner of Damen and Elston gets kicked out of the Dunkin after bring her kids in for a 5 minute warm up. I buy them cocoa and coffee.
