in '07, a bunch of us were working on the follow up to stopAllSounds();. Leek, God rest his soul, was heading the whole thing. it was called heavy_metal.

sadly, Leek hasn't really been around too much since then. i'd pester him on pm and aim, but to no avail. so, tired of waiting, i am taking charge and making the call for a new album competition. starting from the ground up. new tracks, new title, new artwork. instead of a physical release, it will be put on bandcamp. i'm thinking $5, and the money will either: A)go right to the CC paypal; or B) give a portion (or all) to a charity. i believe that is what we did with the first one. i think it was a cow thing, donated in Wade's name. down to the nitty gritty.

TRACKS

track submission is open to all users. the final tracklisting will be decided between myself, and a select few (to be determined [maybe. might curate it by myself. HOW HARD CAN IT BE?]) who are more active in the music making community. the album is going to be an 80 minute limit, standard CD-R length. now, say we don't fill that 80 mins, do all tracks submitted get on? short answers. if it's good, yes. if it's utter trash, maybe. i'd like to see a bit of quality and/or effort.

submissions can start rolling in now. you can submit multiple tracks. as many as you like.

do not post the tracks in this thread, or anywhere else public. keep them a sekret.

as far as what the tracks consist of:

- make it original.
- make it new. don't submit something that you already posted somewhere else. be it on the forums or NG or anywhere else.
- there is no album theme. you have free run of genres.
- keep sampling to a minimum. don't sample a 30 sec Beatles loop and have it be the backbone of the track. i will bend this rule if you can make it interesting.
- no remixes or mashups of licensed songs. again, be original.
- initial submissions for judging should be at least 192 MP3. final track submissions MUST MUST MUST be lossless WAV, AIF or FLAC. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- have fun.

ALBUM TITLE AND ART

this will be open to all users as well. suggestions for titles can be made in this thread. once we get a decent amount of submissions, we will set up a poll that will be voted on by everyone. if, by the end of that voting process, there is a tie, or it is too close to comfortably call, the artists will have final say.

the album art will be decided the same way. rough mockups can be submitted in this thread before, or after the title has been determined. after a decent amount of submissions, it too will be voted on by users. the winner of the art design will then get to design the rest of the art. the plan is to have a full pdf booklet with artist info and all that fun stuff.

LOOSE TRACK SUBMISSION DEADLINE: JULY 31ST

LOOSE ALBUM TITLE DEADLINE: JULY 18TH

LOOSE ALBUM ART DEADLINE: JULY 28TH

these dates are subject to change. voting of title will be open for three days after deadline (July 21st). voting for album art will also be open for three days after deadline (July 31st). the ultimate goal is to have a finished product before Clock Day (Aug 15th). this goal can be achieved, brothers.

hah, the title heavy_metal was a joke based on a shitty user of the same name. most of the tracks submitted for it were electronic, noise songs. that made the album title that much funnier.

but by all means, submit whatever you want. metal, ambient, pop, dubstep, shoegaze. fucking whatever you like to make.
