I've been reading Fahrenheit 451.

I just got to the part where Guy Montag sets Captain Beatty on fire.

clockradioclock

to maintain the sporadic serious post within a not serious thread:

Recently read these while on vacation Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (great!), Vonnegut's Mother Night (wonderful, oh my!), Letters To a Young Poet (well, it was alright), and Vogler's The Writer's Journey (theory). I guess I'd like to read Fahrenheit 451 eventually.

Currently reading Vonnegut's Galapagos, which I hear is just okay but I like Vonnegut and I'd like to read as much of his work as I can.

Holy shit, that book. The first description of the harmoniums had me in tears and sobs, I don't even know why.

After I had confided this embarrassing information to him, my English professor suggested that TSOT has the same effect on English students as The Catcher in the Rye usually has on regular students in their teens. I don't pretend to know what he meant by that, but it certainly feels right.

I recently finished Man of Two Worlds by Frank and Brian Herbert. It's weird because some if it was really good (obviously written by Frank) and some of it was pretty dumb (obviously written by Brian). I read The Santaroga Barrier, also by Frank Herbert, a while back. That was good. It's cool that he has some good stuff other than Dune. The Lazerus trilogy or whatever is worth checking out too.

I recently read Trout Fishing in America because of the title and because it said "streets ahead of Kerouac and Burroughs" on the cover, but I don't know about that, even though it was a fun read.

Thinking about Kerouac reminds me that I wanted to read some Bukowski. It's been a while.

Hearing about Bukowski and reading about Bukowski on Wikipedia makes me want to read some Bukowski. What would you recommend?
