I don't really think you're solving any problems that haven't already been solved in much better ways. I don't understand what you're trying to accomplish besides making a newgrounds-lite, which is all it'll ever be without the millions/billions of dollars of investment that every other similar service has.

If it were some sort of community driven aggregate thing, then that's possible to pull off, but you're never going to be better than youtube, vimeo, kongregate, or newgrounds.

I'm just making an alternative, like sA is an alternative to dA, dailymotion is an alternative to youtube, armorgames & congregate are alternatives to each other

right, but newgrounds itself - which already has support for HTML5 video, too - is on the way out. flash is dead. it's like making an alternative to geocities or something. what's the point? the only thing i can think of that would turn my head is support for automatic conversion of .swf to h.264 or something.

In theory it can be achievable with ffmpeg

ffmpeg sounds like a good idea. i would say experimenting with .swf to mp4 conversion is the only worthwhile idea.

Well, it's not so simple, asked some people on #ffmpeg, got:
QuoteYou can only convert flash files that contain actual video. Animated flash is not supported.
Quote
I don't think either can play animated flash.
The only 2 players I know that support animated flash are adobe flash, pepperflash, and gnash.
And I don't think any of those support rendering to file so you'd have to screen-capture.
...so...i guess, only swivel left, but it won't run on linux 'cos adobe dropped air support for it, wah-wah
(oh, wait, there's also "rendering" by converting swf to a series of images, but it could easily eat up all the memory tested)

A useful tip how to download flash from newgrounds, btw:
- Get firefox
- Get this ext
- Go to page with a flash file, it will detect flash

- Get that swf file you are interested in
- You are amazing

I wish this was a bot so I could just ignore it
sadly, for a moment i was feeling the same...

however, mr. whozzat-dude, please tell us, how did you came to find the clock-crew?
someone suggested this idea to you, have you heard about the clock crew from various memes, or you have been a regular member in newgrounds in the past?

forgive me if i sound direct or defensive, but it seems suspicious to me that you JUST discovered us and our site/forum in a time where we updated our forums...
coincidence?

also, your site link seems strange/dangerous...
is it safe, people?

last but not least, if you would like some good suggestions for your animation site, you should add users blogs, (much like the newsposts in newgrounds), so that people can post about their new movies/events/news, and in order to inform people... then you should also add a review system and some proper rating mechanism such as +/-, or a rating that signifies a movie as ''good'', ''moderate'' or bad, (perhaps a rating such as A, B, and C (or F, since all bad grades in school are F) ).
also, in order to keep your members/users attached into your site, you must add some ''rewards'' and trophies for logging in for a long time, or some rewards for voting movies every day, much like the ''vote 5 movies and deposit your exp in NG.
this way, people will like to earn the awards and they will spend more time into your site, which will be a good thing for you.
also adding levels for users and awards for the best movies/games/videos is a good thing, as well as giving ''trophies'' to users who have submitted many movies (10 movies award, 50 movies award, etc etc).

and more importantly, always add a solid forum and a chat system for your site.

now, you may ask me why im ''helping'' you with my suggestions...
well, in the rare chance that you ARE honest and not a malicious user, then i guess i should give you some tips on how to improve/create cool features for your site.

Ask English, he can explain that better than me, there might be people who might not forgot about the cc incident in the past and I don't want all the hate directed to me. Well, I guess it's not for this thread, otherwise it will be derailed really fast. I do remember clockdays since ~07 tho and I really witnessed CC on NG and also CC.cc.

tl;dr: i know CC for quite a while, for details of my identity ask me on aim/pm/chat in my sig/another thread. Site is completelly safe, it's running on my own box (VPS).

very well, then.

then look at my advices/tips and use them to make your site better.

awards and trophies usually make stat-whores (like me) to stay in a site.
its a good thing.

and make flash movies/games contests, its always fun.

Automatic .swf-to-.mp4 conversion is not worth the effort it'd involve. Such a feature would choke on ActionScript wherever it occurs, and in any case there's no reason to make a small, lossless, vector-based file into a big, lossy, raster file that'll wreak havoc on your bandwidth. You'd be better off trying to convert SWF to HTML5, but to what end?

Unfortunately, I've got to hop on the bandwagon of people not too interested in this project. I don't see myself using it, and I don't see other people using it unless it lets them do stuff they can't do elsewhere.
<Marlin Clock> This thread seems proof positive that divisiveness at any level is usually bad for the Clock Crew.
<PhantomCatClock> are we talking about the same clock crew

Pretty sure Newgrounds released a Swf to Video thing, a good one, there's been plenty of mediocre ones in the past. It's called Swivel.

The industry standard thing is to never use motion clips and just export your movie as a PNG sequence or something, then encode it in Adobe Media Encoder or an old version of After Effects or something like that.

EDIT: Oh you mean on the server side, didn't read that far. But yeah, I still can't see myself getting interested in this site. There's nothing it offers me, it won't offer me viewers, or anything else that another website doesn't already do better.

Best of luck to you though, and if this project doesn't work out, there's always the next one.

I think I've only opened it once, but if it does that, that's terrible. Fuck programs with unexpected sounds.
