I'm Gone Don't PM me!

Quote from: Roman Collar ClockI guess I should cut down on general forum debate myself...

The rest of you can help by not posting comments that will trigger a debate.  And don't act all surprised and offended if you post stuff like, "Faith is just fantasy" then somebody comes along and argues with you.

You always make things worse fool.  :(

Quote from: TurtleSoupApproximately 2 weeks ago, I left you guys very abruptly. At the time, I was very stressed with school, work, and my internet life. I needed a break. During this time, I found myself yearning for a missing part of me, yet it couldn't have been the internet I had just left because I had no desire to return.

Coincidentally, I had just finished reading a novel and was looking for something else to read. I began searching through my attic for anything to read because it was late and the library was closed at the time. I stumbled upon my deceased grandfather's personal affects, and I figured that he must have had some nice books I could read. The only book I found was the Bible. I figured that since I'd never read it, why not, at the time I felt that I could read through it and prove it entirely wrong, well thats not what happened. It took a while for it to sink in, but I found that what I was reading made sense, not in a scientific way, but in a way that transcends science.

So why am I telling you guys this story? Well I've come to apologize. Anyone whos known me for longer than 5 minutes knows what kind of person I am, how rude I can be, etc. Well I've turned a new leaf and I must take responsibility for my past in order to continue this new path I'm on. So I am sorry to everyone who has been on the receiving end of my lashings. I don't expect forgiveness, because I probably don't deserve it.

Thanks for reading.
lol.

You can read a righteous life without religion, you know.

This thread is hilarious.

I continue to lose respect for the people here as I read this thread.

Quote from: Marlin_ClockNot true, while the flood that Noah's Ark is attributed to did not cover the whole world, it has been proven that there was a flood of the Black Sea that covered most of the Middle East, which was basically the whole world at the time, as the first civilizations first started there.

Although the 2 of every kind is a lil bit of a stretch, I mean the boat is said to be built 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high, all the world's animals still wouldn't fit in that thing.

The "world" to them was a small area relative to what we know today. I doubt they took every animal in the physical world onto such an ark, just as the flood itself didn't cover the entire world, and just as not every animal would have been killed by it.

It's been thousands of years since then, and we have only one story to tell us how it was interpreted. That's the thing -- God didn't write the Bible, it was written by people who interpreted his word and commands, right?

So we have no way of knowing the full literal meaning of the "two of every animal" scenario, which animals they had with them, or what areas they were from.

What's small to us would have been huge to them, of course, because of the advancement of technology since then.

There is a lot that has to be taken into account with such a scenario.

THE HELVETICA SCENARIO

Quote from: TreeClockThere is a lot that has to be taken into account with such a scenario.
Including the fact that the Noah story is only one of many flood stories that the people at that time thought came from god (as any primitive human would think at that time.)  Its like Apollonius of Tiana he did everything that Jesus did and "did miracles" including healing the sick (and of course no evidence he did it either) the only difference is that if you mention the fact there were near hundreds of other people claiming to be the son of something or some sort of miracle man at the same time, most people dont know what you are on about.  And they've got their own books.  But everyone only believes their own mythical character is the REAL one and everyone else has been duped by Satan or something.

Quote from: Roman ClockGod said he would lead the animals to the ark so obviously he found all the animals and since the middle east was the entire world then he only needed the animals that resided in that area.

But if God led all the animals to Noah's Ark, wouldnt that include all the animals that they didnt know about on the otherside of the world?  After all if God is so omniscient, shouldnt he know that the world is round?  Just because they hadnt discovered the animals doesnt mean they didnt exist.

Also what about insects and reptiles?  Was there any room on board for mosquitos and komodo dragons?

Quote from: Roman ClockYou know you cant disprove or prove something on the internet silly, your fantasy world is meaningless
my fantasy world is meaningless? I am so utterly confused at the innappropriatness of your responce I dont know how to rebuddle.

I said that Genesis was an easier bible story to disprove then Noah's arc because there are facts about the creation of humankind that you cant run away form like so many users have been with noah's arc (for example: saying that the author meant the middle east when he said "the world" and not the whole world as a strict and literal interpretation of the bible would imply).

And whether or not you are debating in person, on the phone, over the internet, or whatever has no bearing on your ability to prove/disprove your point. However what I'm sure you meant was that the internet has no short supply of idiots who will not objectively listen to your argument or admit when they have been beaten. Most internet debates are only won when public opinion declares a winner, who is not always the one who is right.

The main focus of any debate on the validity of the bible is this: While belief in God and the fundaments of the Bible are a matter of faith that cannot simply be proven wrong, the events in the bible either did happen or they didn't. Matter of fact subjects such as this can (an in some cases quite easily) be proven one way or the other.

No God exists because people believe he exists so whatever people know at the time is what he knows. He's sympathetic like that.

Have you been listening?
The whole world is refering to the Middle East and if that is the whole world that would mean only the animals in that region would need to be on the ark.
lemayo lol :soups:

THE HELVETICA SCENARIO

The definition of "The World" or in fact ANYTHING mentioned in the bible changes with EVERY SINGLE person who believes it when he talks about it on the internet in order to suit his argument.

Example in this case of this particular person of this particular thread "The World" is now "just the middle east".

Roman says "The whole world is refering to the Middle East" but its very easy to just come up with anything and tell other people "You've misinterpreted it, my interpretation is correct not yours"

Its a fantastic show actually.  Me being in Spain puts me in a bad position as watching episodes of Bullshit is concerned.

They brought up some VERY good points.  Many of them should go without saying like the example of the Bible and Elvis's favourite fried chicken recipe.  But sadly quite a lot of people just dont question anything at all ever.
