Quote from: loki_clock;889322They may be getting free food, but they're still homeless and unemployable.

They are certainly not unemployable, it just depends on the region they are in. You also don't need a "job" to get money either.
People who panhandle jangling their cups are really annoying, however in contrast the people who play an instrument I think deserve it more, especially if they are good. And you may think that instruments are expensive, but no, I've seen some guys use what is around them (like trashcans or bottles) and they are pretty good.

Not everyone is a musician, and in many places they'll actually arrest you for busking. Or arrest your busking. I don't remember which, may vary. Also, you don't see many DIY hobos about, who will think to put together the instrument themselves. Everyone thinks you can't play music without the instrument being a particular way. Without the body being the right shape. Without the frets. Without the truss rod. Without all the little things that are more features than bare necessities. You can take a plank of wood, put some nails in it to tie the strings to on the ends, and nail a box of some kind under the strings and you'll have a sort of guitar. Regardless, legal or not, there needs to be more of them everywhere.

Ok both the instrument and pan handling thing are stereotypes which really although for the most part true don't really work. I used to be homeless so I know. First of all the whole thing about looking like Gandalf and all that crap... Not true. Homeless people still do have access to toiletries including shaving products. Second of all the ones that panhandle are usually the dumbest as it only works for so long. The best thing to do to get money is to simply walk to an office that gives food stamps (It's not really a stamp it's more like a specialized credit card with $200 bucks on it) then you go into a convenience store to get yourself some food and stuff. In some cases it even works in fast food joints.

The folks who pan handle are quite simply doing it because they're too fucking stupid to go look for the help they want. That or they're just drug addicts who know they're just going to die on the street anyhow. Don't bother feeling sorry for these people because they deserve to be where they are. You want to help homeless people, you give to shelters, free clinics, and food pantries. Don't give money to pan handlers.

Just because you're homeless doesn't mean you have to be stupid is pretty much what you're saying?
And if you do go to large cities (Chicago recently) there are panhandlers everywhere.

I see an awful lot of bearded homeless panhandlers around here. Only about 2/5 of the panhandlers are bearded men in patchy coats, though. The rest are mostly 20- or 30-something year-old men and women. What do you do to bathe, though? Do you just find a swimming pool with a public shower?

They have showers at homeless shelters. Granted it's kind of like a gym shower but it works.

Actually when I went to Chicago with Gin to see Sage I saw pan handlers everywhere.

Oh, alright. I've never been in one, but they always look like they're just one medium-sized room for homeless people to sleep in from the outside. Not much else in there, from appearances.

Exactly.
Those who at least attempt at entertaining or doing some sort of service most deserve the respect and charity of those more fortunate.

In other words, you deserve to starve if you don't entertain the rich.

That's what they said about tagging people. Believe it or not, your government IS capable of doing wrong. Plus, the Euro already happened, why not an Amero? Also, some people speculate that a collapsing U.S. dollar could be just the thing to pave the way to the Amero. Another thing to note, some South American countries are already using the U.S. dollar as a primary or secondary currency.

You can't kill the dollar. Do you understand ANYTHING about economics?

Quote from: RomanClock;8887951. "We" did not drive them out
Correct. The maladaptive social form drove them out.

Quote2. Did I say poverty is good? I think not.
How kind of you.
Quote3. There are people who don't want to get help, believe it or not.
I certainly believe it. I've met many of them. There are also people with spinal bifida sleeping on benches who can't get government assistance. Then there are the folks who are just batshit insane and walk around ranting to themselves all day and night because there's no long-term mental health care for the people who need it most.

Quote4. Where are these people that are starving?
Right outside my door, and I live in a nice college town.

Marlin Clock

Quote from: loki_clock;891133In other words, you deserve to starve if you don't entertain the rich.
No, in other words, you don't deserve help as much as those who try to attain help.
Charity is still a good thing, but it should either be directed to forms like soup kitchens who give food to the people instead of directly handing money to the poor who might use it to extents I may or may not like. Like it or not(and I do disagree with parts) Andrew Carnegie's "Gospel of Wealth" has some points.

Quote from: loki_clock;891206the Euro already happened, why not an Amero?
1. Everyone else would bring us down.
2. Our money is already a global standard accepted almost everywhere.
3. We're better than the rest of this continent.
Quote from: Fizzy Good;892793Albino Clock
I missed you. :(
Quote from: MarlinClock4theAnnorexic!;892957No, in other words, you don't deserve help as much as those who try to attain help.
I disagree. At some point people just can't take it anymore and give up, it's called a 'discouraged worker' and they are excluded from the unemployment statistics which focus only on people who are still able and actively looking for work. Everyone needs help, regardless of where they stand. It may be help in the form of a hot meal or maybe finding a job. No matter what though, there needs to be a safety net for everyone, that's the very point of social programs.

AlbinoClock

Quote from: RomanClock;893094So you see actual starved people or people who say they are?

I see people with obvious signs of malnutrition and we get the occasional dead bum, though more often from exposure than starvation.

Silly Putty Clock

Quote from: BlackberryClock;883449I do know there is a growing trend in this country in which people think that ANY kind of hardship, risk, or uncertainty is wholly unacceptable and that people should have a right to be sheltered from such insecurity.

lol

Silly Americans.

Quote from: we were lucky;8935802. Our money is already a global standard accepted almost everywhere.

The Amero is a concept. If it becomes the dominant currency of (almost) every country in the Americas, it essentially IS the Amero.
