The Master was a great movie but it suffered from having unrelatable (not necessarily unlikable) characters that never really progress past their condition at the beginning of the movie. Joaquin Phoenix plays his character so well i actually had to check if he was still normal in real life. It was more engrossing than There Will Be Blood IMO, i liked it quite a bit more.

Quote from: Munglai;1939889I don't understand why they based all their rules so much on the arcade when the plot pretty much had nothing to do with it. Who cares how the game characters get around within our physical world? It's fucking magical game land! If everything in the game world had just been connected like a real world instead of some dumb theme park they could have done a proper road movie with Ralph and Vanelope traveling through different interesting environments instead of spending 90% of the film in Willy Wonka land fighting arbitrary rules that they kept having to stop and explain to us. If the overall crisis had been that the arcade was going out of business or something then sure, go for that angle, but the story was about being trapped by your role and reputation, not being physically trapped in a box.

Plus making it like the games were all weird little standalone box worlds with no impact on each other pretty much sucked the peril out of everything. Why did it matter whether the game characters had a world to go to when all they did there was pretend to fight every day and then hang around in other games? Why were those gameless characters like hobos when there wasn't any money and they could just waltz into another game world and dick around there instead? And why were there only like 5 characters with no game in the whole film? Shouldn't there be thousands? Also, why were there no games between Street Fighter and Gears of War? Where were all the shitty 90s 3D games like Time Crisis and that one where you stand on a pretend snow board? When was this supposed to be set? Why were the HD characters the same as the pixelated characters but then some of the pixelated characters moved like pixelated characters?

God damn this film pissed me off.

On the plus side that "dynamite gal" montage was pretty great.

Well, on that perspective, I cannot agree more.

The Evil Dead (2013)

I'm a huge horror movie fan and the original Evil Dead is very high on my list of favorites. Also I'm not a fan of remakes of my favorite horror movies, but the new Evil Dead is extremely worthy of the title and definitely has the vibe the original gave. Of course it's not as low budget and it's for sure an attempt to reach the modern horror fans, I still go as far to say that this movie is sooo awesome! The effects are great because they use practical means of making them as opposed to CGI, which is great! Pretty much, this movie is what horror movies should have evolved into from the 80's and be at instead of all these Saw/Hostel type movies and movies like Paranormal Activity which I feel are "pussifying" the genre. I definitely see myself purchasing it down the line.

Fans of the original: Make sure you stay til after the credits when you watch this one!!!

I was half expecting Stan Lee to pop up after the credits and say "I gotcha good!"

The Evil Dead (1981) - 80/100

Crazy fucking movie that started the franchise. Although I have to give it credit for what it was and the first one was intended to be as serious as possible as horror films go ending up being the cheesy thing it is. It is kind of an awful movie, but I really enjoy the style in it.

i watched Snow On Tha Bluff and i'm still not entirely sure on whether or not what i saw was real footage. unbelievably heavy, gritty shit. great movie.

The Grey was a really really good movie. Watch through the credits.

Man of Steel is pretty good. Third act is way too long and action fatigue sets in. It really seemed like they were trying to one-up the Avengers. "Marvel thinks they can blow up NYC? We'll show them! WE'LL BLOW IT UP THE MOST-EST!"

anyway, Amy Adams is hot as fuck, the guy playing Superman does an admirable job and looks the part. There's some sketchy acting here and there, but it's mostly contained in the first act. Zod is wonderful. I especially enjoyed his tenure in the cryogenic ice penis.

Overall it was alright. Nothing fantastic, but worth seeing if you're into this sorta shit. 6/10

AMPM

Man of Steel was fuckin' boring, besides a few parts where it kinda comes close to making the story seem compelling, but for the most part, fuckin' boring as shit, 5/10

La Vita è Bella - 90/100

Over all charming, quirky, clever, and also very fucking disturbing at times. I have seen this movie many times and it still manages to squeeze out plenty of tears from me.

Looper

Holy fucking god damn shit it was so bad. It's like the spiritual successor of Jumper on making something interesting into something really, really dumb.

Main problem: it breaks it's own dumb rules, making every complicated detail an unnecessary mess.
