personally I think it had a better ending than No Country.
There was another ending if you played the game on the hardest difficulty.  It's pretty easy to guess what's different with the secret ending.

Slurpee

I got that ending once and it's completely inappropriate

just like the ending where maria lives in Silent Hill 2.
only less unsettling and more lame.

I always thought that maybe that was James refusing to believe Maria was a figment of his mind, not that she actually was alive.

Slurpee

that's what made it unsettling

her being "alive" means he refused to accept responsibility for his wife's death, and retreated into the denial and repression that Maria represented, which the town was forcing him to face (hence pyramid head, ostensibly James' mode of self-punishment, repeatedly killing Maria and metaphorically expelling the illusion of his innocence regarding Mary's death.)

I did a school project on Silent Hill when I was 14 =)

I've always accepted that the Leave ending was canon, anyway, but I guess that's just conjecture based on the fact that I like happy endings. I'm interested to see if the hero of Silent Hill V is related to Mary, and if that'll play a part.

Tonight I finished Max Payne 2.  Now I can talk about it.

First off, the face change worked out great.  The new Max is way hotter.  But will I accept Mark Wahlberg?  I dunno.

Max Payne would be emo if he didn't have such gigantic brass balls.  Everything he does is emotionally motivated. He's manly, but so sad. He gets beaten up badly in this game too.  Isn't it a bit much?  Poor guy :( He needs a hug.

Playing as Mona was extra nice for me, because even in MP1, I sort of wished I could break the 4th wall and ease Max's pain.  As Mona I really was protecting him.

Vinnie Gognitti:
Someone at urban Dictionary says that he was "unintentionally adorable."  That's the perfect phrase to describe him. I didn't even try to see what would happen if I broke his collectibles. It never even entered my mind! When a game character influences your behavior like that, you know he's good.  I was disappointed I couldn't save him. :( And after all that work, too.

The Ending:
I found killing Vlad much more satisfying than killing Horne.  I so wanted to shoot that witch.
I'm too lazy to get the "good" ending myself, so I watched it on youtube.  I liked the "bad" ending better.  There's no way she could avoid jail.  As for Max, I'm sure the NYPD is VERY pissed about being bombed, so Winterson's guilt will exonerate him.

Either way, I'm so happy that Max came to terms with himself and his grief.  That's the ending that makes it worth it all.

Max Payne 3:
I wonder which ending will be chosen as the "canon" one to start off MP3?  And aren't all of the secondary characters dead except Jim Bravura (the TV report before you fight Vlad says he lived through the shooting.  How, I don't know)?

But without any more emotional drama, what will fuel Max?  His emotions drive the story.
I'd be satisfied with this:  "Address Unknown" isn't a TV show, it's Max's real life.  And you play as him in a Twin Peaks-ish story.  Impossible, I know.

@Jane:  I also like the Mona dies ending more.  It's much more cinematic and dramatic.
As for Max Payne 3, I don't really know what they'd do with it now that Max is happy again, but then again, Max seemed pretty happy at the end of Max Payne 1, only to be a sad sack in Max Payne 2, so we'll see.
Though, in Max Payne 2, I guess it's real happiness.

the Max Payne series is the first that ever made me feel bad for finishing the game just because I wanted it to go on for longer ;w;

NOW THAT'S A VIDEO GAME.

I played them on PS2, so I suppose I could get the PC versions and some nice mods.  I downloaded the PC demo of MP2, and I'm surprised to find that I can run it fairly well.   Although using the keyboard will take some getting used to, aiming with the mouse is so much better.

I also felt bad finding out that Vladimir is teh evilz because he was so cool in Max Payne 1.

Did anyone watch the 30 Rock that was on just now?  It wasn't a very good episode, unfortunately, but Liz Lemon's ex-boyfriend totally looks like Max Payne.
I'll pull up a Youtube clip in a bit.
I mean, he was on a subway wearing a leather coat.  Looked totally like Max.

OvenmittClock

i still play max payne 1 on my xbox :C

Come on, this guy totally looks like Max Payne.  Keep watching, he keeps looking more like him the further you go in the episode.

Full episode.
In the last 5 minutes or so, he's on a subway in a leather coat and looks exactly like him.  All he would have to do is put on the deep, monotone noir voice, and he could be Max from Max Payne 1.

Topcatyo

You can't tell me this guy doesn't look like Max from Max Payne 1

I know.  I eventually stopped paying attention to the episode to admire how much he looked like Max Payne.
Not that it mattered, it wasn't a very good episode anyway.  I blame the strike.

OvenmittClock

what if the creator was the main character? all he has to do is learn how to act and it will be perfect.

His head's too thin, doesn't look enough like Max.

Joking.

The clothes and the hair are pretty close-- it looks like someone dressed up like Max Payne for Halloween.

But he can still be John Mirra!
