Global Warming = The Green Scare

Instead of communism, the new scare-tactic and money-cow is called "global warming". Communism was a very different animal, but just as illusive and misunderstood.

I don't doubt that the earth is warming, that is pretty well documented. But for the media to say that humans are completely to blame and that it isn't natural in majority is bullshit. It's a mockery of our intelligence, and I am sick of it.

Greenland is covered with ice, when it used to be GREEN. If the Vikings were to attempt their discovery of the Americas today, they would never succeed because the waters they traveled are far colder today than they were back then.

Science proves that the earth was once much hotter than it is now only a few hundred years ago and so will it be again. To assume that the current average temperature of the planet is supposed to be a constant (at whatever temperature suits us) is as asinine as believing the orbit around the sun is a perfect circle.  Hell, it's almost as stupid as saying that the Sun orbits Earth! Who are we to say that xx degrees is the "optimum" average temperature? Who are we to say that the polar caps are always supposed to be solid, when we know they have not always been that way?

The fact is that the entire planet has seasons, in ADDITION to our equatorial annual seasons. It rotates around the Sun in an orbit that has an elliptical wobble to it, and as such the Sun's exact effects on our little planet will change from century to century. Our planet's orbit is also effected by the orbits of all other heavenly bodies in our solar system.

Our planet is NOT a closed system. The average distance from the Earth to the Sun fluctuates every year, and has never been constant. The exact effect and length of these global seasons is not yet documented because science as it exists today hasn't been around long enough to witness one full seasonal cycle, let alone had the ability to record consistent data. Oh and lets also ignore the fact that the energy the sun emits is also not constant, and that it does not send it out in all directions uniformly.

Think about it this way.  If a human life only spanned a couple months, then the next generation in the northern hemisphere might think that the planet was entering an ice age, when in fact it was just the coming winter. In this case the planet is just entering it's next phase. Humanity is too short-lived and naive to realize this, so we jump to the conclusion that something is horribly wrong and that WE have to fix it (because obviously we are to blame, right?).

The earth is NOT broken, this is just a Green Scare.

I'm fine with "getting green" and using alternative energy, all that jazz. The problem I have is with the scare tactics and the blatant misuse of facts trying to convince the masses that we are near some kind of Apocalypse. It's all quite medieval if you stop to think about it.

Just like the ancient mystics once twisted the words of religion to suit their needs, politicians and greedy men are now twisting the works of science to fill their wallets and give them power.

Many officials know that this is just a scare, but are forced to go with the ebb and flow of the masses in order to avoid being seen as ignorant, when in fact the vast majority of people are swallowing this whole and becoming part of the greater ignorance that is our nation.

Greenland was never green.  The Vikings, when they discovered Iceland, found it to be a really great place and didn't want people to come flocking to it when they reported the discovery or whatever, so they named it Iceland to turn people away from it.  Greenland is pretty much vice versa.

Sorry, I wasn't saying that Greenland was once green just because of the name, but because of the signs of vegetation found under the ice sheet that now covers the vast majority of Greenland.

I agree with the fact that it's getting to be a rapture-esque scare at this point where it's getting preached to children that they have to do something about it, but I doubt it's all exaggeration. Water is probably colder because there are 1. melting ice caps 2. a higher water level, making the temperature of the mass of water change more slowly, if not harder to change and 3. the temperatures of water and land don't correspond with each other because water temperature is slow to change to begin with. As well, I would think that scientists researching global warming have taken into account the varying sun's temperature and distance from the earth to the sun. Despite the fact that it's already been this hot before, the temperature increase has been so abrupt that it can't be attributed to nature alone, and as such we're throwing off a balance which we can solve by getting cleaner energy.

Hell didn't humans survive the ice age as fucking cavemen? We have enough knowledge to survive another one anyway. (that's at least my hope there aren't much pole lickers)

I think its cyclical and people can get over it with careful measures, of course it is not like talking about a meteor coming ahead, it is serious and must be taken with anticipation and/or prevention.

Hope fully some people might have the same thought and just don't want to make it worse as to reduce the C02 amount in the atmosphere, it won't stop it from coming ahead though.

Hysteria. Ruling the human race for over 200,000 years.

I don't see the harm in the idea of fighting global warming, whether or not humans are responsible.  Even if we reduce our pollution and deforestation for the wrong reasons, that's still a step towards the good.

RomanClock

I hired 10 scientist that do not study weather and eventually got 8 of them to say global warming is real, therefore most scientist believe in global warming. Now that its a fact, you can make yourself feel less guilty by giving me money and then I say the magic words and your pollution is gone!

Honestly I'm pretty sure that I'll be dead by the time anything really terrible happens to the world to end life as we know it.

I used to be scared of death, now I welcome it because I am an awful self centered person

with or without global warming, getting less pollution, cleaner energy and more trees is good for us and for all

yes but global warming is being used to manipulate people into doing it. people are too stupid to take action until they think they can see that their lifestyle is being threatened.

I'm all for informing people about something, but I hate ads targeting children because they're impressionable.

Solenoidclock

On this whole natural cycle thing, which I fully agree with, do you guys have any idea what this will do to plant life? The extra heat, stronger weather, more rain, and extra co2 in the atmosphere will surround us in a steamy and green uber-jungle.

Although I agree with what you say, I don't think that ad was targeted at children. It was meant to bring gullible adults (especially parents) into a panic by suggesting that their children will have to live through the catastrophic consequences of global warming. Of course, it is true that the children will have to live with it, but the commercial turns it into a cause for panic. I believe that global warming is the result of a combination of natural and man-made causes. As for its potential deadliness, I won't pretend to know about that, but I think it's a good idea to care about the environment. It is bad of the politicians to use it to manipulate people like this, though. I think it's just one of a number of threats to humanity's survival. If we don't poison ourselves, we'll probably blow ourselves up.
