I guess I just feel strongly about a distribution of wealth so misguided that people won't put an extra ten bucks on their tax return so that a poor family can eat, but will spend ten bucks every weekend to see some variation of a guy dicking around for two hours, which was an enterprise that cost millions to create and could have easily gone to create something culturally or sociologically valuable, which is usually more profitable than a callow cash-in.

It's remarkable what people will buy these days.

The only time its perfectly reasonable is after you watch the movie, not upon announcement. If you hate the idea of a shrek 4, don't watch it, use your $10 towards something useful to society, as snake said. There are millions of kids out there who want to watch it, and they shouldn't be denied a sequel to a successful franchise just because a couple of people say how shitty it is (even though they havent seen it)

There aren't rules for this kind of thing. People can complain if they like, it's not going to stop the kids who want to watch it watching it.

I don't know if anyone's said it yet but there was a twelve minute long sequel to Shrek released in 3D before Shrek 2 hit the theaters. It was an absolute failure, but the DVDs are supposed to be worth something now if you have one.

Admittedly, though, Dreamworks has been trying to put out ambitious works lately, like Kung-Fu Panda and Over the Hedge (Shark Tale was another attempt, though it failed). Maybe they just shit out these Shrek movies to pay for their more daring projects. I know that Kung-Fu Panda had far less popculture references than your average Shrek movie, which means they would have had to work more on the humour.
