I'm of two minds. Vanilla servers are great, but this means they're probably going to be laying the smack down on every private server around, and Battle for Azeroth is conceptually the followup to Cataclysm that we should have gotten immediately following Cataclysm, but the quality of the last three expansion packs makes me fear the execution. At the end of the day, BoA progressing the story as I want it to isn't going to make my Hunter fun to play again.

To be fair, they did fix just about everything wrong with WoD in Legion. It's not really for me so I haven't been playing it, but it has been really well made and considerably less bullshit (in practice. A lot of it looks stupid on paper, but it did work)

The thing I'm most worried about in the Vanilla server is what happened to the 2007 snapshot of RuneScape. A SHITLOAD of people played it, so RuneBlizzard decided to give it its own active development team. As in, making entirely new content for it--almost exclusively endgame and microtransactions because that's what the kids playing RuneScape 3 like. This worked and right now more people play "2007scape" even though it is very much no longer the 2007 edition of RuneScape. I know it feels like Blizzard won't do this. It felt like Jagex wouldn't. It's going to start with quality of life upgrades. It's going to start with the mount journal and the pet journal, "to save bag space". Just you wait and see.

If that’s the case, I have no problem turning my back on them again. If they can’t deliver the authentic experience they’re asking the money for than one again the communities of private servers will take up the mantle.

Uhhhh hmm. Looks like you need another DPS? But if it's just fucking around I guess it doesn't matter. I'd be a druid but none y'all are gonna be DTY. Maybe a paladingdangdong, because I REALLY miss how those controlled in Vanilla and they have never played like that again, what with the seals affecting judgment and such. Never was one for Lawful Good though and I would probably be a smelly roleplayer when you guys are asleep. I'm a bit of a powerleveler though (whenever I want to make a new character, I have to delete one because I hit the account limit a few expansions ago) BUT I DO turn that off when I'm playing with people who actually give a shit about the world and want to quest--the best people.


Oh, but I do occasionally buy another month of WoW time and I don't want to modify my whatsits so here's to hoping the official vanilla server won't be bullshit. (Either way, it won't be bullshit AT FIRST so be sure to stop by. The last private server I played on was in Burning Crusade, but I recall the zeitgeist being that that was the most faithful/stable one and iiiiiiiiiit had problems.)
