did people older than me actually say "stick-to-itiveness"

like i know what it means and it's a good phrase for ..several single words that already mean that. i've just never heard it actually used outside of puns in cartoons. like "HE'S A LITTLE TIED UP AT THE MOMENT" or

another example, because two examples feel weird but three is always good

the first time I heard it was Jack Black talking about Ben Stiller having it towards getting Tropic Thunder made. I think in common language if people use it they do so kind of jokingly-yet-sincerely like "methinks" or "that wasn't very cash money of you"

I think it's funny to spell it stictuitiveness

I came here to post that, I just found out the villain in Hades 2 is Chronos, and I'm not sure I approve
Chronos isn't really a God, he's time itself. and I guess Hypnos is sleep itself and Thanatos is death itself and that was fine in the first game, but to me Chronos is like... I don't know where I got this idea from, I guess partly conflating him with Cronus (and, by extension, Saturn) but I always pictured Chronos as just a mouth, like a mad, all-consuming maw, almost like Azathoth, and thought that the reason he doesn't show up a lot in Greek mythology is what the fuck are you gonna do? what story is there to tell? he's time. he's immutable. time is the thing that happens even if nothing else is happening. you can try to ignore him, but time just is. it comes for us all, even the mountains and sky.

so... idk, I don't follow I guess is my point. you're gonna go beat time up? ... kay.

maybe I should just trust Supergiant
I'm one of those posers who played Bastion and then 0 Supergiant games until Hades left early access so I have no idea what their track record actually looks like, I just know they made two really excellent ones
but I guess that's the thing, they didn't make a Bastion 2, they went and did other stuff, and I know Hades was a huge seller but I feel like they wouldn't have gone back to that well so quickly if they didn't have something they really wanted to say with it

time got beat up before you were born. you're descended from chudds who threw rocks at time while zeus kicked its ass

it's a classic idea and i'm glad a video game other than braid was brave enough to be at a nintendo direct about it

PhantomCatClock

i make my living drawing porn of zeus and christ and payment processors can kill my livelihood at any moment, yet i still use them. the sword of god damacles.

speaking of, what the hell is Alyssa Ashcroft doing in Resident Evil 9? is she stupid?
I thought it was canon that all the Resident Evil Outbreak characters died. come to find out she's been sneaking around in canon since RE7

PhantomCatClock

spoilers for early lategame RE8 but I think they're starting to play character deaths as fast and loose as 90's Marvel did

FLOUNDERMAN_CLOCK

you won't understand the plot of 8 unless you've already played outbreak 1/2, dead aim, gaiden, and the game.com version of 2. it's all essential lore you'll be utterly lost without.

PhantomCatClock

yeah if you don't play those ones you won't know who's dead and then be surprised when they show up to help you in the last part / raid your house in the first part

ok I think jack black is an outlier example here because he's gotta be more conscious than most people of when he uses the word 'tenacious'

stick-to-it-iveness almost has a different connotation than 'perseverance' I dunno. perseverance feels like you never stop trying, STI-iveness (I am typing on my phone please credit me for coining this) feels like sometimes you stop but you come back to it

it's maybe one of those words you used to use before a certain expiration date to signify to other corpos that you are the worldliest mf in the conference room
<Marlin Clock> This thread seems proof positive that divisiveness at any level is usually bad for the Clock Crew.
<PhantomCatClock> are we talking about the same clock crew

PhantomCatClock

perseverance feels like a noble never giving up, i always felt like if stick-to-itiveness was actually used, it'd be like.. doing a good job out of habit or being too stupid to know it's a waste of time, but everything worked out

PhantomCatClock

BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT I MEANT also i've been saying "dash it all" at work this week and it works

so I was watching this video of a moron getting his shit wrecked because he pissed on the floor during a showing for the new demon slayer movie and some of it splashed on a kid, so then I thought to myself "wow the dub is fucking bad I had no idea"
