if there's no dunsparce in sword and shield I ain't buying. if he's there I am. I don't even care about all the other nonsense surrounding it and the bethesda-tier bullshit pr statements from game freak dunsparce is literally the only important factor here.

dunsparce = 10 out of 10 n64 trees A++
no-dunsparce = shit out of fuck b@lls F--

also there's a bunch of games coming out later this year I want and a lot of them are sixty dollars so if I'm gonna get one it's probably gonna be links awakening. or death stranding if it turns out good. cyberpunk 2077 and that platinum games switch thing both look good though so idk.

I'm bad with faces, does this not quite look like jim carrey, or is it just me?

I think I identify people partially by posture, body language, etc., so this doesn't register as jim to me, but it's also not quite jack nimblesmith, either, it's just like a totally new person who does not exist

it's kind of cool, it's like watching spanish dracula. just this slightly different version of the thing you know

FLOUNDERMAN_CLOCK

I think it's because jack's skull structure and hair frames jim's face differently. maybe we identify people by the sum of the parts and how they frame each other rather than the individual features? someone can seem like an utterly different person by changing their hair enough. chimps and tell each other apart by sight and humans can't tell the difference. There's probably a whole science to how and why humans recognize each other's faces and I don't know shit about it.

One day we'll be able to just select the actors we want in the movies we watch. I haven't had enough coffee today so I can't really think of any funny examples.

Or maybe you just put yourself in.

Also in porn.

Although I'm not quite sure if that's at all... helpful.

PhantomCatClock

Isn't it Deep Fake? I think only the face was changed, not the forehead or anything

right now it relies on staying still and looking at the camera but the tech will improve. voice synthesizing software is getting better too but you need big dedicated hardware to copy someone's voice really well at the moment. eventually we'll be in a situation you can make anyone look like they did anything with a good PC and anyone can say something they were filmed doing was a deepfake and didn't happen.
it's gonna be a fun ride.  :zoom:  :bandwagon:

being able to plausibly lie about video evidence won't be useful to me until they can fake somebody's face chugging 8 ejaculating horse cocks

project voco honestly scared me when I first saw the video, but at this point three years on with no further details I'm assuming it was mostly smoke and mirrors, like peter molyneux's boy simulator. what a big load of horseshit "project natal" turned out to be :/

the splitscreen coop obamas bothered me too but looking at it now, and even the shining one, there are clear limits. they're at least still hovering in uncanny valley territory. I wonder if it's going to be like the progression of cgi and humans will just keep getting better at spotting fakeness. I remember when Final Fantasy The Spirits Within came out and everybody was disturbed by how lifelike they were and fucking lol

eh. a sizable chunk of the population doesn't pay attention to facts anyway, even when the truth is plain and unassailable, and we've always muddled through one way or another

I've got to wonder about the people who are developing this tech, though. like what good things do they think will happen, besides the momentary sideshow amusement of replacing all of the avengers with nic cage?

Also, Jim is clean shaven in the source material there, and Jack was scruffy in that part, so the look is a bit off. But if a viewer wasn't familiar with the movie, the actors, and wasn't told is was a deep fake (which would cause them to look for errors) I think it would fool a good portion of people.

I think Adobe put the brakes on VoCo for now because people were freaked out about it, but I'd bet they're still invested in its development, and as this type of technology becomes more pervasive they'll integrate it into Audition.

The uncanny valley is still there, but the progress they've made since that Final Fantasy movie is really good and machine learning is already being applied in the movies with less dubious intentions. All of these things are the stepping stones into a future of reality being indistinguishable from simulation. We might even live to see it.

I hate my fuckin job.

I was thinking about it, this forum is like my security blanket. I’ve been here since I was 12 and without fail every single night I will check it somewhere in the realm of a dozen times. More if work is quiet, more if I happen to be frustrated or in a low mood. Bless you people, the ones who tolerated me in adolescence, and the ones I’ve come to know better into my twenties, and especially VCR the glorious saviour who keeps the rent paid and evicted the aspie. It’s a turbulent point in my life right now and it means the world that I still have this rock here to cling to.

Sorry to interrupt the porn discussion

I threw $100 at the joint one year, Lump did a commission for it and I got him to make a promo image for the Flash Flood. Might have been 2014?

RobClock

I checked the NG BBS, it was 2014
