otoh that might not actually be very fun to roleplay because there's not actually boxes of scrap you can macguyver in interesting ways so every time you want to do it it would just be like "I try to make a _____" "ok" *rolls* "you do"
you might as well just be pulling weapons out of the timestream like kang the conqueror if that's how it's gonna go

I know this exists but all I can think of is the characters who can't do it on the fly, like when you bring a rusty metal pipe and some shoestring to Roll in Mega Man Legends and she turns it into a repeating ballistic missile launcher. IIRC that was the best weapon.

I've found myself watching as much Tom Snyder as I've been able to find on Youtube lately. He's got a very compelling presence as a broadcaster- charming personality and a real class act.

I don't have much to add to that other than I wish I could find a more comprehensive archive of his work.
