I can't find a video for pronunciation that isn't either a robot reading it phonetically or someone pronouncing it indistinguishably from "gin". I looked up a video pronouncing جن which feels kind of like a cop out since, you know, at that point it's not the pronunciation of a (borrowed) english word, but I could only find a robot for that, too
it's a ʒ, like Zsa Zsa Gabor

or uh
the g in "mirage" or "beige" or the s in "pleasure" depending on your accent

the thing of it is "j" in american standard english is really two sounds, it's

so if you do a "d" sound and notice, your tongue starts off touching the roof of your mouth on that little ridge just behind your teeth. that little ridge is called the alveolar ridge
that's a voiced alveolar plosive (voiced -> you're using your vocal chords instead of just blowing air, alveolar -> the tip of your tongue is positioned the roof of your mouth on that little ridge just behind the teeth (the alveolar ridge), plosive -> the noise comes from the airflow being temporarily blocked)
then do what we think of as a "j" sound
what we think of as a "j" sound is really that "d" sound, the voiced alveolar plosive, followed immediately by ʒ
ʒ is the voiced postalveolar fricative (voiced -> you're using your vocal chords instead of just blowing air, alveolar -> the tip of your tongue is positioned at the roof of your mouth just a but further inside from that little ridge just behind the teeth (as in post-alveolar, meaning after the alveolar ridge), fricative -> the noise comes from blowing air through a narrow passage between two articulators (in this case the tongue and the roof of your mouth) without onstructing airflow)

there was like five minutes where I couldn't doubleclick a webp and it'd open, but then I updated my computer

wait five minutes for imgur to update, then what's wrong with it
I'm calling for a complete shutdown until we figure out what's going on

they don't work properly with the old windows photo viewer which is a war crime on par with mass cannibalism of a conquered nation and transparentbackgroundstockimage.png.jpg

this reminds me, last I heard, png has been extended to include apng pretty much across all major browsers, but as far as I know I've yet to actually see an animated png anywhere ever. and I don't even know how I would export one myself to test it. maybe that's what I'll do with my morning

FLOUNDERMAN_CLOCK

they've promised me for years we would have animated PNGs and I never see any. I saw one example nearly a decade ago and that was it. where are my jetpacks and animated PNGs? I thought this was the future.

PhantomCatClock

you could've just said ж slurp, you know we both studied russian juuuuust enough to make SDC raise an eyebrow but realize she can't actually have any meaningful conversations about it with us

i kind of cheated for the V but it was Halfdan carvd this post. I don't know if you're aware of the legend of Halfdan, but he carves runes and isn't scared of extremely rickety ladders so he's pretty much my role model

Ohhhhh, that makes sense. Halfdan sounded familiar so I figured I had it right, but I couldn't figure out that tricky v thing.
