Basically they destroyed his immune system and replaced it with a new one made from the stem cells of a man near-immune to the disease. Neat-o.

All this stuff they are doing with stem cells recently is crazy. They are using them to grow whole organs for people, even hair. There have also been advances in using them to cure paralysis.

It kind of reminds me of ADAM from Bioshock

I always thought of stem cell research as pretty sweet. I can't ignore the fucked up possibilities it can open up, but it sure as hell is useful. It seems to be the best way to cure most of our worst problems.

basically, it means that someone who has HIV can take treatments so that they dont get AIDS. this treatment is useless to somebody that already has AIDS. its the same deal with rabies. you want to get your rabies shot ASAP otherwise once the symptoms set in, its incurable.

Well maybe in Canada you can get those treatments but here in my ass backwards country we have about 50 million without health care.

I realize aids probably isn't as prevalent as it was say 30 years ago, but I kinda hope it'll be gone all together (like small pox) someday.

Well they are trying to develop a DNA synthesizer, which basically would artificially create new life forms. That could create some pretty shitty things if in the wrong hands.
