...anyone planning to participate? It will be my fifth time participating. We've got a really cool group for it here in the Chicago suburbs.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, Nanowrimo is short for National Novel Writing Month, an annual event where you try to write a novel in 30 days, during the month of November. You can find out more details below, or ask me questions.

Nanowrimo's always been a ton of fun and this would be my fourth year if I took the time to participate. I often consider November to be the month of that great yearly purging of the brain.

I'm pretty sure there are writing groups here in Montreal, but I prefer to fly solo.

I'm participating, in fact it occurs to me that there's not nearly enough insanity in my life, and I may actually write two novels this year. :ohboy:

The Clock Crew probably isn't as enthused as usual by this event, though.

PolearmClock

I'll do what I did the last couple years, write until I run out of ideas, then give up. Oh well.

They should move it to a summer month. I always want to participate, but I have too much homework and other stuff to really consider it.

I've tried this a couple times but I never end up having enough time.  I imagine that'll be the case this year, too.

There's a new one in July called Camp Nanowrimo. I know someone who did it this years and "won" it, according to her Facebook.

And really, the rules are straight forward, you could theoretically do it any time. In fact, when I first heard about it, I decided to try it for myself two months before the official one, and wrote 25,000 words that month. I'll probably do a warmup the week before this year as well, since I have a couple of unfinished Nano's that could use 10k+ extra words.

Huh, I didn't realize that. Maybe I'll give it a shot next summer.

I've actually had a few ideas pop into my head recently, but Idno if I could make a full novel out of them since I've always been thinking about them in a more visual format.

DiscoBallClock

I'm in the middle of a long story atm and I don't like starting other stuff before I finish a story...we'll see how this goes. But I don't like writing under pressure either, so...

But by all means, I encourage participation on this! I'll talk to the rest of the staff to see if I can get the winners something.

Sombra

Hehe I was wondering who was going to make the thread. Nice to see you're still around Sage. I think this is my fourth time at it, always hit ~5000 and peter out. I'll give it a go again this year.

SageClock

Hey Sombra! I haven't ever left the internet, just kinda shifted my focus a bit.

My main problem is that I've gotten so out of the habit of posting here and so instead I just post on Reddit, which is easier since that's my main source of links anyway. Plus I prefer the way comments can be hidden and folded on that site compared to traditional forums, and how it will notify you whenever you get a reply back to your posts, and if you get lucky, you can drive a lot of traffic to your website, personal project, etc.

That stupid site has spoiled me too much that's it's hard for me to go back to plain old forums now, even though I don't really like how that site is so big you're essentially anonymous, and you can't effectively build a persona without making silly meme pictures all the time.

Back on topic, Nano's going pretty well for me so far this year. I'm currently several days ahead of schedule, mostly thanks to finding someone to challenge early who's even more driven than I am. I didn't even intend to be this far ahead, but hey, whatever works. Also, I haven't written hardly anything outside of the local write-ins. Thankfully, the local group has gotten so organized over the years that there's a write-in in the region almost daily.

How's everyone else doing who is participating?
