its currently going around that Chris was romantically involved with a 17 year old when he was 22, and he has not acknowledged the controversy whatsoever. Tom was chuffed by Chris' lack of comment and took action.

a one-eyed ice golem with feathered wings, wearing a pair of gray jeans, in the east-bay

I have no idea what I'm doing. is this a riddle?
if it's a riddle the answer is the x-men. one-eye -> cyclops, ice golem -> ice man, feathery wings -> angel, gray jeans -> jean grey, east-bay -> pig latin for "beast"

what is this? I apologize., frankly. it's like my brain has just completely given up on the being clever part of being clever and is just producing meaningless connections for no reason

I'm trying to find out which episode of sealab 2021 had the commentary track that was just one of the people who worked on the show reading a story he wrote when he was a kid and found as an adult  and it was a completely insane story with like 30 or 40 characters that all had superhero/g.i. joe type codenames and superpowers/gimmicks and probably 60% of the story was just introducing the characters who iirc would pretty much immediately be incapacitated. the only detail I remember is on like the third or fourth squad of heroes he explains like 4 of the members, and then he gets to the last guy and his name is "Dart" and he just says "He threw darts." I don't know how to describe it or why it was so funny but I was laughing so hard I couldn't breathe.

this shit is nowhere on the internet, no one has even talked about it, and I don't understand why. were me and my friends really the only people who indulged in the extremely shitposty extras on adult swim dvds?
the commentary tracks are also dvd exclusive and it appaears this is one of the few shows in existence where some fucking hero hasn't uploaded all the commentary tracks to youtube. I'm so annoyed. even apple tv doesn't have it, and they're usually pretty good about throwing in extras features. I'm going to have to actually buy the dvds. at least I know it was probably in seasons 1-3 because we kind of lost interest in the show after Harry Goz died

good news: I have turned around Stayin' Alive. I actually think it's amazing and hilarious now

1. can you imagine if this song didn't exist and somebody tried to invent it? it's like the gayest sounding shit you've ever heard in your life (albeit with a groove anyone could love) but it's a white australian guy singing in a high falsetto about how you can tell just by looking at him how straight he is. then he just starts nonsensically warbling about the new york times and the fact that he's alive. you'd be like what? what  what is this?

B. it turns out this song actually has the "Iris" problem. you know how the song Iris by the googoo dolls sounds really emotional and poetic ("and I'd give up forever to touch you... 😔") but then you find out it was written for the Nic Cage movie City of Angels and Iris is literally just describing the plot of the movie from Cage's character's perspective? that's Stayin' Alive. well, the opposite side of the same coin. the song is about how Travolta's character projects a smooth, charismatic cool guy persona while inside he's basically falling apart. Tony Manero is an italian-american brooklyn native living in his family's home and working in a hardware store in the 70's. (the 70's in america, despite what you would get from how solid the pop culture was, and the rosy eyes of boomers looking back on it, was a really rough time- stagflation, the energy crisis, deindustrialization, political disillusionment stemming from vietnam and watergate. this is why movies from that decade have this very bleak like "dude 70s are you okay?" feeling about them.) anyway Tony's the black sheep of his family, and dancing at the discotheque is his only escape from the realities of his life. it's the one thing he's good at, and it's meaningless. the reason the lyrics to Stayin' Alive are basically nonsense is that for this character, the fact that he's just staying alive is his whole inner world at the start of the movie when the song plays, which is why

III- there's this really weird part later in the song where a distant voice, buried under the groove and endlessly thumping four-on-the-floor beat quietly sings, "life going nowhere... somebody help me... somebody help me, yeah" followed by a quartet of falling horn hits, and then it repeats, and the melody goes slightly off beat, and then barry gibb insists, with a long keening note, "I'm staying aliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii-". and then it repeats the cry for help, and then the song goes back, not to the chorus, but in a weird almost insistent move, like the structure of the song itself is in denial, to the first verse, then the chorus, and then the cry for help comes back early, and... it's the entire back half of the song. probably 40% of the song is just a guy desperately repeating "life going nowhere... somebody help me" over and over again. this presages similar choices in dance songs like Hey Ya ("if what they say is 'nothing is forever', then what makes love the exception? so why are we so in denial when you know we're not happy here? ... y'all don't want to hear me, you just wanna dance.") or... pretty much any Scissor Sisters song, a kiss of oblivion that emphasizes that dancing is not a response to joy, it's joy as a response to darkness. barry gibb is singing about catastrophe. feel the city breaking. how did I never see this before? been kicked around since I was born. the song is about being ground down by the world, but so ehow you haven't died yet. "it's alright, it's okay. live to see another day." one more day alive, one more night of dancing. you're staying alive
