I don't think you're right on that one. I'll admit, I'll have to see it again but I recall it looking just like the Scarecrow. Even more so, Batman recognized him and mentions that he's mentally ill, as if he knew him from before. I'll have to watch it again.

The characters are the main difference, and frankly, DC dominates that field.

Only just saw it. I missed the first film, so things like the increased kill-rate, the more somber tone and boring Gotham City took me by surprise. Heath Ledger's performance is undoubtedly fantastic, and his lines were very well written, however I found Bale's acting to be unremarkable and, whether it be the fault of the him or the script, made the character of Bruce Wayne arrogant and un-relatable rather than sympathetic. I found the fact that he must have deliberately lowered his voice when dressed in the batsuit funny. I also thought the supporting roles were miscast; Morgan Freeman playing the same boring old fart, genteel black man he always does, Caine... (I just don't like him), Oldman playing a character far too ordinary and Maggie Gyllenhaal... I find personally emetic.

I liked most of it, though. The pace was almost relentless, although, unaware of the running time, I was expecting the film to end in about 10 different places in the final 60 minutes. The special effects and stunts were very impressive, with a tasteful use of CGI. The art design was great, and as far as you could get from Batman and Batman Returns (both of which I liked, for the record); the city is boring, the colours are dull and realistic, there's proper gore and the villain's costumes are tattered and worn, not bright and garish. The plot was a little muddy and contrived, and there was a lot of suspension of disbelief required regarding the Joker's seemingly omnipotent powers, but it was anything but dull, and the script made the Batman/ Joker relationship into much more than a game of cat-and-mouse, raising some interesting, Watchmen-like moral ambiguities regarding vigilantism.

Not bad. I'd give it 3/5. I think the IMDB score is a bit high, at the moment.

I can't help but think Cillian Murphy's Scarecrow is a shitty adaption so far. I hope they fix him up and make him actually a decent villain in the next one.

The letter to the editor entitled "Dent Cannot Be Believed" is sent in by Edward Nashton, which is one of the Riddler's lesser known aliases. Also, that number-crunching employee who essentially figured out Bruce Wayne is Batman is a very possible Riddler candidate for the next one. He wasn't given a name(yet). The Riddler was one of the few villains who knew Bruce Wayne was Batman for a time.

Think about it. Including that number cruncher was pretty pointless if we won't be seeing him again.
