To be fair, Malthus's ideas came a bit before the industrial revolution, so Idno if he could have ever really anticipated that. Also, I'm pretty sure in his original explanation the reason that it was a crisis was because populations are exponential in nature, not because they were linear.

I wasn't saying that resource allocation wasn't part of the problem. The thing is though, America hasn't experienced the kinds of changes European countries have, I have seen the model, high birth rates and high death rates at the start of the revolution, then modern medicine reduced deaths, and then modern culture reduced births, normalizing the curve. However, this doesn't apply to everyone, especially not us.

You also have to think of the power of economics in the repression of the developing. Businesses are never going to let people in poor countries gain their rights. Much of cheap labor depends upon the fact that poorly developed countries do not have labor laws and can be exploited.
Thus, you will always have these areas of high population increase and increasingly better health care exacerbating the issue of population dynamics.

Yes, but every professor I've ever had has said that there is absolutely no genetic basis for group evolution. It makes sense, self sacrificing individuals would not contribute to the genepool as much as selfish individuals, so there is never a sensible way for selflessness to evolve, especially when such selfless behavior is very prone to cheating.

I don't see why the alleles that hypothetically cause (or influence) altruistic behavior couldn't be recessive and get carried through individuals who're made more likely to survive because their group survivability was increased by the handful of suckers in the gene pool that show the trait.
or why it couldn't just be a side-effect of an unrelated trait that offsets the blow to survivability it hypothetically causes.
or even just be complete happenstance. I'm sure there's a lot of useless or even damaging crap in our gene structure that didn't increase survivability, but just happened to not get selected out.

I don't think there's any evidence to support it, but I also don't think ruling it out entirely would be very scientific.

reminder that we discovered the gene most closely linked to left-handedness a measly 4 years ago, and it turned out to also be tied to schizophrenia.
