A few bullet point highlights:

* The co-op portions of Mass Effect 3 were developed by BioWare's Montreal studio, meaning that resources were NOT diverted away from the single-player experience (being developed at BioWare Edmonton). It is important to note that BOTH teams are under the same direction that lead Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, namely Casey Hudson.

* The multiplayer portion will feature new, user-created characters. (i.e. No Garrus, Liara or Wrex in the MP.)

* The multiplayer experience is completely independent from the main campaign and does not need to be completed to get the "perfect" ending.

* On the flip side, experimenting and excelling in the multiplayer portion gives you an alternate way to improve your "readiness" in the campaign.

* DLC is being planned for Mass Effect 3, but BioWare is not going into specifics.

* Your Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 saves will not impact the multiplayer experience.

* The co-op experience will feature character progression, weapon upgrading and leveling up.

Mass Effect is one of my favorite game series out there.  I just hope Bioware doesn't hold back on the story for gameplay.
Gears of War 3 had a shitty ending for the last installment in it's trilogy, and I'd hate to see the same happen to Mass Effect 3.

Wait ME3 is going to use that piece of shit origins? That thing is terrible, some of the worst DRM I've ever seen. It's even worse than Steam, if one were to consider Steam drm

Right now what pisses me off is the ME movie in the works.  I would be cool with it if they made a film in the same universe following original characters, but no. There making a default Sheploo ME1 playthrough movie. The best part of Mass Effect is that the decisions are yours. This movie takes that concept and flushes down a krogan toilet.
As for the multiplayer. I agree with Thor about it being on Origin, that seriously costs it some points, but I think the basis of what they've announced for the "Galaxy At War" thing is actually quite interesting. Hopefully you will be able to unlock Blasto by ranking up or something.

That said I loved the first game, the second was great but not as good, I have less hopes for the third but we'll see.
