Quote from: Henchman 21;1034428Why wouldn't he?  You think he nails those intricate, super-long sentences on the first take every time?

It's possible and is a frequent and favourable characteristic in the world of journalism. This guy seems cool and articulate enough to not labour over his material.

Though he'll probably confirm it one way or another soon.

I can almost guarantee that's rehearsed, and it's a certainty it's scripted.

I've tried cold-reading speeches I've heard several times in the past (I have a dream, for example) at half the speed he does, and I still trip up on words and phrases that I really shouldn't trip up on ("quant-quantitittt-I can't say quantity, what the hell!"). In order to have that flow, your brain needs to kinda know what words are coming next before you get there.

He might not have to rehearse that many times, though, and he might get away with just backing up a little bit and editing the audio so only the smooth bits are in there (probably strips out some of his pauses for breaths also), so it might be minimal editing and minimal rehearsing, but there's no way he does 5 minutes straight of audio without fucking up, ever. Haven't you guys ever seen outtake reels, and that's professional actors with only a handful of lines to say, with breaks.

Oh, he may not do actual "rehearsals" either. He may just go until he flubs up, back up a few sentences, and start again until he next flubs up, backs up a few sentences, and keeps going, all the way to the end, and then just edit out the flubbed bits.

Still, the delivery is great, and i like his humor.

And it's a lot funnier to image some guy sitting behind his computer jittering all this surrounded by several cases of Coke or Bawls or whatever people drink to stay awake.

Exactly, and that's all that matters :P. Well that and his tendency to say unpleasant truths the games industry really needs to hear (casual gaming, shallowness in games, etc).

But I know what you're thinking: "Yahtzee, you charismatic stallion!"

You're ruining my childlike naiveté. :(

He fucks up what he's saying in the BioShock one I think, but keeps going for the humerous effects it causes. Unless it was scripted, I really can't remember. :X

I think he's referring to some thing in System Shock 2 since it's so damned similar to something in BioShock. I've never played the game, but given the position of the review, that would make sense.

Maltese

that guy is clearly jesus' english half-brother

I love the Psychonauts review maybe if this gets popular enough people will actually buy it and people will realize its greatness and companies will recognize Double Fine so they can start making Psychonauts 2, since it was obviously set for a sequel and I'd give my left testicle to play such a thing.

cokezeroglock

i don't like his hatin' on casual games much, those are the only games i really play

Yeah, that was a joke on purpose.

Check out the new one, he skewers Halo 3.  It sounds like his throat is sore or something.  You have to love this stuff.

He seemed more fervent than usual. I love it.

I think this is the first game review where the reviewer completely owned the fanbase with Q.E.D. He rocks so much.

He never did get back to me on how he rehearses, though. :(

ChocolateCoffin

He hit the nail on the head with the Psychonauts one.

CaulkClock

These are hilarious, I must watch them all!

I'm glad a personality like him is advocating it. :)
