I've been served an ad for the all new brand new Oni Press Archie #1

which I wasn't going to buy anyway, hey I can respect some Archie but we're not tight like that

it looks like it was drawn by someone who learned to draw(?) on the Internet. the official Archie Artstyle is formulaic and played out, it's true, but that doesn't excuse lopsided microencephalic mob characters or sexy Jughead:

actually what shocked me the most was a vignette of The Archies in the full-page splash panel where Archie is dreaming, not because things have changed but apparently because they haven't: Veronica plays keyboards. Betty plays tambourine. They always have.

I don't know if this is just a glacial shift in the perception of popular misic culture that's occurred since the '60s, but clearly Ronnie should be out there hamming it up on tambourine, while Betty is relegated to the highly skilled but thankless, unsexy keyboard position that only exists in bands for nerds

Quote from: Slurpee on July 30, 2026, 01:36:21 PMstarting a band called What Your Parents Tell You so that people ask each other "do you listen to What Your Parents Tell You?"

making a movie called This Shit
making a thoughtful artsy indie game about loneliness called With Yourself
making a really tough pixel platformer called You're Meat Today

this is the best way to name a band

according to legend Brownsville Station was named to take up a lot of space on venue marquees

originally I didn't understand the band name 'The Reunion Show' but then I realized that when you put it on a flyer, it looks like the other band broke up and got back together

Quote from: VCRClock on July 19, 2010, 09:07:58 PMthe only way to cure phantom puke syndrome is to find the puke and lay its spirit to rest

use a wooden stake or some oxyclean

hey yo the song you can't identify on that one unmarked cassette tape you bought a while ago is "the groove" by Rodney Franklin

there are a couple of others but you'll be able to Shazam them eventually. squadalah

i got algorithmed a youtube video where someone who sounded gen z decided to challenge themselves to order a pizza from a blu-ray player

not a super complicated hardware exploit, the device had built-in streaming "apps" built on web, so step one was just to successfully direct DNS requests for streamingwebsite.nl to google.com

step two is write some javascript to get mouse focus, enable spatial navigation, and write your own softkeyboard so you can use the remote buttons to type

anyway he did it he ordered the pizza

is it a cancer cure? no, but that useless project is so much cooler than whatever I've been doing with my spare time most of the time

yo dude, gen z here! what's a thesaurus

Quote from: PhantomCatClock on July 17, 2026, 08:23:08 AMthought that job interview went really well until it ended and I saw my reflection in the monitor and remembered I was wearing my I WIPE MY ASS WITH KLEENEX® shirt

The team were really impressed by your passion for cleanliness, but we admit we were a bit confused by your decision to wear that shirt to the Dude Wipes® offices

speaking of lazers (we use the 'z' spelling to distinguish between cool lazers, such as Lazer Tag, and relatively boring lasers like the eye surgery kind)

publications like The Atlantic, Psychology Today, and Mother Jones have written much of the hollowness of the naive idealism of the 1990s exemplified by -- you guessed it -- the 1991 commercial for the Milton Bradley board game Crossfire

you know the take: the actual experience of playing the board game pales in comparison to the leather-clad hoverboard deathmatch against Greasy Haired Kid shown in the commercial

now in 2026 my question is: the leather-clad hoverboard deathmatch would be the simplest VR goggle game to make ever. other than that there's another dumb title called Crossfire, why has nobody done that yet? woulda sold more Meta Quests than the Metaverse was going to.

Quote from: Slurpee on July 14, 2026, 03:13:29 AMI have learned there's a Russian equivalent of "deez nuts"

if you can find some way to get your friend to say 300, you get to reply "suck the tractor driver's dick"
and that means you gottem

the entire justification for this is that in russian "300" (трис, "trista") rhymes with "suck off the tractor driver" (отсоси у тракториста, "otsosi u traktorista")

you may notice that "trista" rhymes with "traktorista" without the part about sucking his dick. correct. as far as I can tell there's absolutely no deeper meaning or wordplay or missed cultural context or anything, they just added the part about sucking his dick and everybody went with it,
much like how the word "these" could go in front of basically anything, but for some reason we decided you get to say "nuts" and that means you gottem

I'm crestfallen slurpeeclock. the soviets have been one step ahead of us this whole time in the race to discover new funny numbers

how did i do this nonstop from 1997 to 2006

that's why CRTs are back: they're actually good for your eyes

Quote from: PhantomCatClock on June 17, 2026, 10:29:47 PMthey have their own package tracking now

you are going to be seeing more of this in the future :turb:

last month Amazon opened up its mighty in-house logistics system to outside business; that is, they intend to compete with FedEx, UPS and also less-than-truckload freight companies

so, you know, you don't HAVE to buy from Amazon. you can always buy from the little guy who's gonna ship with whoever's got the best rates. which might soon be Amazon.

I guess Heathcliff is an unusual example of nepotism being fucking based actually

it wasn't printed in my newspaper growing up, so I've only read it at all in the past 5 years. I was thinking, knowing what I do about syndicated comics, was Heathcliff always like this? if so, how the hell do you get that into syndication, when the humor is this absurd in-joke logic that only makes sense if you regularly read Heathcliff? (and the fact that you are reading Heathcliff is essential to the punchline?) how many sample gag panels would you have to send to some guy at Creators Syndicate for him to think America would "get it?"

anyway Wikipedia says Heathcliff got weirder when Peter Gallagher took over from his uncles in 1998, so I guess it's like this previously injected dumb cat panel is the attack vector for whatever Heathcliff is now
